Lima to Oxapampa
The long and harrowing bus ride from Lima to Oxapampa, Peru, for the Feast of Tabernacles was quite an adventure! At one point we crossed over the Andes, about 15,000 feet above Sea Level! We were given tea made from the coca plant to fight the effects of the altitude sickness, but I don’t think it really helped that much for either Tisha or myself. I got horrible motion sickness from the curvy roads we drove over, and towards the second half of the trip really had to use the bathroom, which was inconveniently broken! Once we finally stopped at a rest area, the bathroom experience was one of the worst I’ve experienced, but I was thankful to at least have a place to relieve myself! Continuing on, the roads became more or less a dirt path through the jungle and at one point we had to stop for road demolition, where they were using dynamite to blast away at the cliff face above the road! The barren Andes gradually yielded to the verdant Amazon rainforest, and the last part of the trip looked like a scene from a movie! We finally arrived in Oxapampa, about 12 hours from when we departed, and we settled into our beautiful cabana lodging for the evening. All I have to say about the trip is that you better pack some Dramamine!

Hey Kevin and Tisha,
Really enjoyed your video and pictures. What a trip! Did I see Mohan from Baltimore in one of the shots? The Andes are extremely high. No wonder the bus ride was so tiring. How did the little girls do with the altitude sickness?
Glad you got back safely.
Love,
Dad

Yes, it was Mohan! It was nice to get to know him! The girls seemed to do pretty good comparatively speaking, but they’ve already done a lot of travel, so they are experienced!
